This is a city with a global influence and impact e.g because of Their financial or commercial power. Their is a hierarchy of world cities, Alpha++, Alpha+, Alpha, Alpha-, Beta and Gamma.

Hubs of business, transport and trade

What are the characteristics of Alpha++?
More integrated than all the other cities and constitute their own high level of integration.

Other highly integrated cities which complement London and New York, largely filling in advanced service needs for the Pacific Asia.

Very important world cities linking major economic regions and states into the world economy.

Important world cities which link to their region or state into the world economy.

What are the characteristics of a Business, transport and trade hub?
They have strong connections to the rest of the world via the Internet and electronic communication. They dominate trade and consumer activity. Headquarters of multinational corporations can be found there, international financial institutions, law firms and stock exchange that influence the world. Financial services support this. There is also a high level of personal wealth.
Characteristics of a production hub
Most good manufacturing and production of goods takes place in developing countries and newly industrial countries, many of the decisions about marketing are made by transnational corporations, which usually have headquarters in world cities.,
