What is strategic implementation
Involves the the stages a business wil go through to plan implement and evaluate its strategy
What will leaders aim to do
- set the vision
- motivate workforce to implement strategy
- keep the business on course to achieve the strategy and realign tactics if it drifts from normal strategy
- assess progress and performance
- ensure success is recognised
- adjust the strategy or implementation if its not working
What stages might be included in implementation strategy
- communicate strategy to employees
- identify key personnel to implement the strategy and delegate responsibility
- ensure resources are made available to implement the strategy e.g budgets allocated, training given
- set measurable steps with appropriate deadlines
- put in place system key performance indicators to measure progress
- identify and celebrate quick wins along the way
- regroup, assess if necessary to adjust
Why may effective communication be important
Will ensure that all employees will understand what they should be doing and why they are doing it. If employees share the same vision they are more likely to be successful.
Factors to consider when designing an organisation to implement strategy
- what span of control is appropriate
- what specialist roles will be required
- should decision be centralised or decentralised
- what teams and mix of skills Wouk be required to implement the strategy
Identify two structures that might be adopted to implement strategy
A product structure might be adopted if customer needs centre on specific products a business offers
A regional structure may be adopted if the business is a multinational and has operations across different countries
