3.1 Human Factors Flashcards
What is anthropometrics?
The measurement of the size and proportions of the human body, as well as parameters such as reach and visual range range capabilities.
What are the measurements from anthropometrics usually made from?
These measurements are usually made of a particular sample of the population, and often separated on the basis of gender and age.
What are typical anthropometric measurements?
- stature
- weight
- distance between eyes
- circumference around waist
- hearing ability
- sight
- touch
What is ergonomics?
Ergonomics is the science of designing the equipment and workplace to fit the worker.
What do ergonomists have to consider to assist the fit between a person and their work?
Ergonomists consider the work being done and the demands on the worker; the equipment used, and the information used.
Which sectors is ergonomics used in?
- anthropometry
- biomechanics
- mechanical engineering
- industrial engineering
- industrial design
- kinesiology
- physiology
- pyschology
What is the working triangle?
Kitchen designers have adopted a guide for measuring the efficiency of a kitchen. They use the accumulative distance between the sink, stove, and refrigerator.
What are the desired characteristics of a kitchen based on the working triangle?
This distance should not exceed 7.5 metres and preferably be under 4.5 metres. Any kitchen with a working triangle distance of 25 feet or more would require unnecessary steps to complete routine tasks.
