1.1 CADCAM Flashcards
1
Q
What is CAD?
A
- Computer-Aided Design is the use of software to help design and technically draw a part or product, including entire buildings
2
Q
What are the two types of CAD software?
A
- 2D Design
- 3D Design
3
Q
What are examples of 2D design in CAD?
A
- Adobe Illustrator
- TechSoft 2D design
- Allows the designer to draw outlines and engraved details
4
Q
What are examples of 3D design in CAD?
A
- TurboCAD allows the designer to produce 3D designs
- When completed, the design can be viewed of screen and examined at any angle
- TurboCAD can also be used to add visual effects including material coloration, texture and finish
5
Q
What is CAM?
A
- Computer Aided Manufacturing is the use of software tools that help engineers and machinists in manufacturing or prototyping product components
- Creates real life versions of components designed within a software package
6
Q
What is CNC Machining?
A
- Computer Numerical Control uses software to read machine code to control a machine to make components and products
- Machinery included laser cutters and 3D printers
- Machines can cut in 3 different axis - x (left/right), y (forwards/backwards), and z (up/down)
