What does paper consist of?
- Paper consists of fine vegetable fibres, which are extracted from wood.
- These fibres are made from cellulose.
Where can cellulose fibres be taken from apart from wood?
- hemp
- flax
- cotton
- bamboo
What’s wood pulp?
Untreated material provided by softwood and hardwood trees.
Why do you add lots of chemicals to wood pulp?
So the wood pulp can achieve the required texture and surface finish required to make paper.
What is the paper making process?
- Tiny chips wood are cooked in water and chemicals to make woop pulp
- The pulp is then poured through a filter or a fine mesh
- As the water drains away, the cellulose fibres naturally join to form the paper’s structure
- The paper move through a set of machine rollers, which flattens the paper and removes any left over water
- Flattening the paper makes the mesh of fibres stronger

Anything over 200 gsm
