What is indirect pulp capping?

A

Done when there is a near pulp exposure
Used to maintain vitality and promote secondary dentine production
Removal of caries, calcium hydroxide liner is usually placed, no bleeding

What is direct pulp capping?

A

Done when there is an exposure of the pulp when caries is removed may see a small amount of blood
Need to use sterile applicator to apply calcium hydroxide to reduce risk of tooth flaring up

What is a pulpotomy?

A

When crown of tooth is surgically removed and leaves vital pulp behind in canals
Done in secondary teeth to promote secondary dentine and keep vitality
Done in primary teeth to devitalise and preserve remaining tooth tissue and reduce risk of abscess

A

Contents of pulp are surgically removed and replaced with antiseptic dressing to calm nerve
Done to maintain dental arch and eliminate infection and abscess formation

A
