Why should you not use latex gloves?
Many have an allergy to natural latex - can cause hypersensitivity
Can also develop a latex allergy if it is repeatedly used
Why do we not use powdered gloves anymore?
Carcinogenic and can cause harm
What is the colour coding system for in HTM 01-05?
Reduces cross infection - different colour for different zones
How do you work safely when dealing with mercury?
Seam-free lino extending up walls
Wear gloves, mask and eye protection
Use encapsulated amalgam to reduce risk of spillages

How do you deal with a mercury spillage?
Open windows and close doors
Wear full PPE
Get mercury spillage kit
Lead foil can be used if spillage is small
Major mercury spillages need to be reported under RIDDOR
Legislation relating to sharps
Must ensure risks from sharps are assessed thoroughly and appropriate control measures are put in place
Must be disposed of in yellow rigid container, 2/3 full
Keep records for 2 years
Disposed of by incineration
