Corynebacterium - Habitat, morphology, staining and culture. biochemistry
mucous membranes, skin, soil and milk (animal pathogens are saprophytes) some plant pathogenic.
Polymorphic.
Gram positive slightly acid fast. metachromic granules stain strongly
blood agar haemolysis, weak on nutrient.
Catalase + ox - fermentative.

C. diphtheriae - hu diftery
C. pseudotuberculosis
N-negative - PTB, Caseous lympandentis, abortion
N-positive - eq ulcerative lymphandentis.
C. renale - pyelitis and cystitis
C. pilosum - pyelitis and cystitis
C. cystidis - cystitis
C. bovis - mastitis and abortion found in milk and udder
Norcardia
Soil saprophytes, branched filaments, no flagella wrinkled colonies.
obligate aerobic
caretenoid pigment
non fastidious 3-5days
Facultative pathogens
N. asteroidus chronic supination and mastitis in cattle.
Actionmyces
alimentary tract, branching filaments,
broken sulpher granules in pus but not on culture.
Facultative anaerobic apart from actinomyces israeli is obligate.
