What are the different types of Leadership?
Usually 3 different types:
1) Authoritarian - Directing yourself
2) Democratic - Doing it with the team
3) Laissez-Faire - Not caring
Explain Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow set out that people’s needs are set out in a hierarchy. The higher the needs achieved, the better the performance.
What are the key levels of Maslow’s Hierarchy?
- Physiological
- Safety
- Love and belonging
- Esteem
- Self actualisation
What is McGregor’s Motivation Theory?
That there are X and Y attitudes to management:
X - People dislike work and do it because they have to. Results in a carrot and stick approach. Transactional.
Y - People are self-motivated and enjoy the challenge. Results in empowerment and initiative.
What is Herzberg’s Two Factor Theory?
That there are two elements that motivate people:
Hygiene Factors - Conditions, Salary, Policy
Motivation - Growth, responsibility, recognition
You need the Hygiene at all times, and Motivation Factors can then be driven to improve performance. But, can’t have the Motivation without the Hygiene.
What is Duty of Care?
That a party should take all reasonable steps to ensure their (and others’) health, safety, wellbeing and security.
What is the difference between Management and Leadership?
- Management is about using established procedures and processes to administer the output of people.
- Leadership is about driving output through inspiring, motivating and providing direction.
What are the characteristics of a successful leader?
- Approachable
- Honest
- Technically competent
- Supportive and protective
- Motivational
- Strong communicator
- Active listener
What different types of organisational team structures are there?
- Hierarchical - Top down
- Matrix - Cross function
- Functional - Silos
What is Tuckman’s Model of Team Development?
- Forming
- Storming

What is a RACI Matrix?
Describes the roles each stakeholder has.
Responsible

How would you deal with an underperforming team member?
Address the matter in a private setting.
Identify issues / obstacles
Set clear / measurable targets
Review / Monitor
If not resolved escalate with the manager.
