Explain how to use Boolean operators, Truncation, Wildcards and phrase searching.
Boolean Operators named after George Boole, a mathematician. Examples are AND when connecting search terms. Using OR will retrieve records containing either or both words. NOT will retrieve the first word but not the second word, good for excluding information.
Truncation - Usually an asterisk or question mark, will search for several different words example being manag* will retrieve - manage, managing, management, managerial.
Wildcard is usually a question mark or asterisk. Example could be Utili?e will search both utilise and utilize.
Phrase searching - search a string of words as a phrase so the words don’t get separated, example “global warming”.
