2f - respiration Flashcards
what is aerobic respiration?
respiration (the breakdown of glucose to release ATP) using oxygen
what is anaerobic respiration?
respiration without oxygen.
what does anaerobic respiration in animals produce?
lactic acid
what does anaerobic respiration in plants produce?
ethanol and carbon dioxide
what does respiration produce and what does that then do?
ATP which provides the energy cells need
what is respiration?
when energy is released from the chemical energy stored in molecules in the cells of living organisms
what does respiration use?
energy stored in food molecules to build up molecules of ATP
what is the word equation for aerobic respiration?
glucose + oxygen => carbon dioxide +water (+ATP)
what is the chemical equation for aerobic respiration?
C6 H12 O6 + 6O2 => 6CO2 + 6H2 O (+ATP)
why is anaerobic respiration used?
when energy is needed that can’t be supplied by aerobic respiration
what is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in animal cells?
glucose => lactic acid (+ATP)
what is the word equation for anaerobic respiration in plant cells?
glucose => ethanol + carbon dioxide (+ATP)
which from of respiration produces more energy?
aerobic as it produces more ATP molecules
