Who receives Sponsorship?

What are the Positive and negative effects of Sponsorship? (e.g. performer, sport)
Performer positive- More money for higher wages.
Can turn into role models.
New advanced technology kit/equipment provided by sponsor.
Negative- Increase in pressure to perform. Sponsorship commitments take time away from training.
Sport positive- Increase of interest in sports with media attention. - Increased participation.
More opportunities for grassroots development with financial support
Negative- Minority/women sports get less coverage.
Game times and rules of sport are changed to agree with media schedules.
People may choose to watch sports at home instead of at games, reducing revenue.
Over-exposure of sport.
What is the definition of Sponsorship?
Provision of funds or other forms of support to an event, activity, person or organisation for some kind of commercial return. Sponsorship can take a number of forms. E.G. Financial, Clothing/equipment/footwear, facilities and accessories.
Give some Examples of unacceptable sponsorship
Alcohol, tobacco, fast food, gambling/betting
Goes against healthy image of sport and influences children.
How can you watch sport on television? What are the other forms of sporting media?
Television - Live coverage, highlights, 24 Hour news, documentaries, quiz programmes, pay-per-view.
Other forms - Radio, Social media, Internet, Newspaper (tabloids, broadsheets), Billboards.
Definition of sexism?
Prejudice, stereotyping or discrimination based on someone’s gender.
What is the government definition of disability?
A physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal daily activities. Disability can be temporary or permanent.
What are the improvements and what needs to change in disability sport?
Improving – increase funding for UK sport, Increased media coverage for Paralympics.
Changes needed – Limited number of qualified coaches, limited clubs/travelling can be a problem due to costing a lot.
What are the physical effects of ageing?
Flexibility decreases with weight increase, skill level/experience improve until peak, O2 capacity/ max hr (220-age) & reaction time decrease with age, reach max strength at age 25, decrease at age 40.
How does sport change as people get older? (e.g. primary school to elderly) How is participation affected?
Sport change:
Primary -Mini versions of game, can be mixed gender.
Secondary – Playful versions of the game, becomes more competitive.
Elderly – low impact sports E.G golf
Participation effect:
Participation decreases as we get older due to less free time, less leisure time, focus on career/family, less income.
How can family have an affect on participation?
Support – financially, emotionally and travelling.
Becoming a role model.

People of the same age and status as you.
Positive- Encouragement, Peer pressure you participate
Negative- Peer pressure with negative attitude, can be a distraction.

Sports equipment, Footwear, Clothing, Monitoring and analysis equipment, Officiating equipment.

Positive:
Performer - Ask officials to review decisions that go against them.
Sport - Make competitions fairer by changing incorrect decisions.
Negative:
Performer - Technology not always available because it’s too expensive to buy and install.
Sport - Too many reviews during a match disrupt play and frustrate spectators/performers.
Give three examples of sports technology.
Hawkeye - Uses cameras to track ball flight and trajectory.
Wearable - I.e. heart rate monitors
Software - I.e. Dartfish/Kandle-analyse player movement
Video official - Use of video replay to make officiating decisions. e.g TMO/VAR
