What is qualitive data?
Subjective answer – data that focuses on understanding things (how they think/feel/opinions)
Information gathered by: Interviews, observations, questionnaires.
Examples:
How someone felt when completing the mutli-stage fitness test / opinion on their current level of fitness / opinions on their skill strengths and weaknesses
What is quantitative data?
A measurement which can be expressed as a number, there is no opinion expressed – a performance fact.
Information gathered by: Questionnaires, surveys, fitness test scores, heart rate monitors etc.
Examples:
Time recorded in 100m race / progression in 5km time over a 3 month period / number of goals scored and interceptions made in a game
What is the difference between the dependent and independent variable?
The DEPENDENT AXIS:
- Goes on the ‘y’ axis (left side, vertical line)
- This the variable that is being tested or measured.
The INDEPENDENT AXIS:
- Goes on the ‘x’ axis (the bottom, horizontal line)
- This is the variable that is controlled.
