- non-static

- silky and smooth
- very soft handle with good drape
- biodegradable and recyclable
- low warmth(not insulating)
- lower strength/abrasion resistance/durability than cotton
- poor elasticity(creases easily)
- dyes to brilliant colours
- shrinks less than viscose
- inexpensive to produce

- produced mainly as staple fibres and mainly used in blends
- viscous liquid: extracted through a spinneret in sulphuric acid and drawn
- spinning conditions: different and the coagulation bath contains extra chemicals
- dyed at the viscous liquid stage
