  • non-static
  • absorbs up to 50% more moisture than cotton
  • naturally breathable
  • silky and smooth
  • very soft handle with good drape
  • biodegradable and recyclable
  • low warmth(not insulating)
  • lower strength/abrasion resistance/durability than cotton
  • poor elasticity(creases easily)
  • dyes to brilliant colours
  • shrinks less than viscose
  • inexpensive to produce

  • wood pulp from beech trees
  • produced mainly as staple fibres and mainly used in blends
  • viscous liquid: extracted through a spinneret in sulphuric acid and drawn
  • spinning conditions: different and the coagulation bath contains extra chemicals
  • dyed at the viscous liquid stage
