1E Quantitative and qualitative testing Flashcards
Qualitative data
- the opinions of people/their behaviour
- often about human behaviour
- gathered from open questions: encourages descriptive answers and different perspectives/points of view
Quantitative data
- factual information
- often in numerical form
- usually closed questions: choice of answer/yes or no
- data is sorted into: rank order/categories and is usually analysed
What are feasibility studies?
Involves the analysis and evaluation of the design ideas/prototypes/plans for making - as it is important to check whether the proposed design is going to work and whether it meets the needs of the target market
Results of feasibility studies
Indicates the possible modifications/improvements that could be made to the prototype in order to create successful designs
Why do designers produce and test prototypes?
To develop and improve their design ideas and evaluate the success of the design
Feedback on prototypes from focus groups(target market)
- how likely they are to buy the design
- opinions on the function/aesthetic
- how and how well they use the product
Lets designers/manufacturers known what they should keep or adjust according to feedback.
How can collected data be presented?
Questionnaire results can be analysed and evaluated using charts
