28 Fuel Flashcards
Describe the fuel system
Stores fuel in the tanks
Supplies fuel to the tank during refuelling
Supplies fuel to the APU
Circulated fuel cools the IDG
Keeps fuel in outer tanks for flutter relief
How much space is there in the tanks for expansion when the aircraft is fully fuelled?
2 % which is a 20 degree temp rise
How many fuel pumps are there?
A320/319 6 fuel pumps
A320/321 NEO 4 pumps
How many transfer valves are there in each wing?
2 valves in each wing that transfer fuel from the outer to the inner tanks
How is the cross feed valve controlled and what does it do?
Double motor
Allows one engine to be Feb from both sides or both from one
What is the engine LP fuel valve closed by?
Engine master switch
Fire push button
What is the fuel feed sequence?
A320neo:
Centre tank fuel transfers to inner tanks once the inner tanks have had 500kg depleted from them.
Inner tanks empties down to 750kg
Outer tanks transfer to the inner tanks.
A321: same as above but uses 250kg in the wing tanks (no outer tanks)
Describe the IDG cooling through the heat exchanger?
Fuel goes through the HP fuel line through the IDG absorbing heat and then returns to the wing tank.
How does refuelling occur?
Starts with the outer tanks. If selected amount is above wing tank capacity then centre tanks are filled at the same time.
When the outer tank is full it overflows to the inner tank.
How is the LO LVL warning triggered on ECAM?
When one wing tank goes below 750kg
What is the Fuel Tank Interting System?
Installed in the centre tank only and produces oxygen depleted air to replace the ambient air. This reduces flammability.
Describe the centre tank pump logic?
Run at start for 2 mins
Before or after engine start they run if slats are retracted
They stop 5 mins after centre tank low level reached.
What fuel temp will ECAM give an advisory?
-40 degrees
Above 45 degrees
What does the fuel return valve do?
Mixes cold fuel with hot fuel to regulate the fuel returned to the outer tank to approx 100 degrees
