27 Flight Controls Flashcards
Which spoilers are used for roll control?
2, 3, 4 and 5
Which spoilers are used as speed brakes?
2, 3 and 4
What is an ELAC and how many are there?
Elevator and Aileron Computer, x2
What is a SEC and how many are there?
Spoiler Elevator Computer, x3
Which hydraulic system supplies which spoiler?
Spoiler: 1 2 3 4 5
System: G Y B Y G
Which hydraulic systems supply the ailerons?
Left Aileron: Blue and Green
Right Aileron: Green and Blue
Which hydraulic systems supply the elevators?
Left elevator: Blue and Green
Right elevator: Yellow and Blue
Which hydraulic systems supply the stabiliser? (Pitch trim)
Green and Yellow
Which hydraulic systems supply the rudder?
Green, Blue and Yellow
Which SEC supplies which spoiler?
Left Spoilers: 5 4 3 2 1
SECs: 2 1 1 3 3
Right Spoilers: 1 2 3 4 5
SECs 3 3 1 1 2
What is aileron droop? How is it displayed on the F/CTL SD page?
This uses the ailerons as a form of flaps to increase the lift generated by the wings at low speed. This droop is 5 degrees on the A319/A320 and 10 degrees on the A321.
It is showed by the arrow pointing to a small box in the middle of the aileron position indicator (not between the two dashes indicating clean neutral position) on the F/CTL SD page
What do the ELACs control?
Normal elevator and stabiliser control
Ailerons
What do the SECs control?
Spoiler control
Standby elevator and stabiliser control
What does FAC stand for and what does it do?
Flight Augmentation Computer (x2)
Controls rudder, rudder trim, and yaw damper inputs. It computes data for the flight envelope and speed functions. It also provides warning for low-energy and windshear detection.
What is an FCDC?
Flight Control Data Concentrator (x2)
Acquires data from the ELACs and the SECs and sends it to the Electronic Instrument System (EIS) and the Centralised Fault Display System (CFDS)
MEL FCDC 1… no dispatch
At what speed do ground spoilers auto extend in an RTO?
72kts
Which system takes over to control elevators and the stabiliser if ELAC 2 fails?
ELAC 1, then if that fails, the SECs
Which system takes over to control the ailerons if ELAC 1 fails?
ELAC 2, then they become damped
What is an SFCC? What does it do?
Slat Flap Control Computer (x2)
If one SFCC is inoperative, slats and flaps both operate at half speed.
If slat wing tip brakes (WTBs) are on, can you control the flaps? What about vice versa?
Yes, and yes
What is alpha lock and how does it work?
It inhibits slat retraction at high angles of attack or low speeds
AOA > 8.5 degrees or speed < 148kts
What is the altitude limitation on the slats and flaps?
20000ft
What does it mean if a hydraulic system is shown in amber on the F/CTL SD page?
Low hydraulic pressure
