In the 1630s and 1640s. During those times there was the polarization of opinions and support between:
King Charles I and Puritan Parliament (led by Oliver Cromwell).
Who are the cavalier poets? Of whom does it consist of?
A group of monarchists: Carew, Herrick, Lovelace, Suckling.
What’s the key difference between the metaphysical and cavalier poets?
Cavalier poets were simpler than metaphysical ones.
Who’s cavalier poets’ master? What model did they use?
Their master is Ben Jonson. They used his model for their verses, which implies classical distance, elegance, delicacy, rather than engaging with political upheavals (but it doesn’t exclude it).
Who’s Oliver Cromwell?
He’s the leading figure of puritan parliament who got rid of tyrannical monarchy, but two years after it was back after his death, not tyrannical though.
Who was concerned about politics and wrote works on it?
Herrick and Lovelace, the cavalier writers.
