Functions of management (Fayol)
Planning: setting a course of action for achieving objectives/ goals
Commanding: give instructions/ orders to employees to ensure high standard is being met
Organizing: ensure there are sufficient resources
Controlling: have power over a situation and can take action when necessary
Coordinating: ensure all departments are working towards the same goals
Manager
Someone who works towards achieving goals by directing and delegating tasks to their subordinates, making decisions and solving problems
Leader
Someone who sets goals, empowers motivates and inspires employees and defines the purpose and direction of the organization
Autocratic leadership
A leadership style that keeps all decision-making at the center of the organization preventing employee participation
Democratic leadership
A leadership style that involves workers in the decision-making process
Paternalistic leadership
A leadership style that makes decisions in the interest of employees as if they were family, and in return employees are expected to be loyal
Laissez-faire leadership
A leadership style that leaves much of the business decision to the workforce due to a lack of interference from managers
Situational leadership
Leaders that adapt their leadership style to each situation/ circumstance
