  • Line of duty death
  • Suicide of active LAFD member
  • Suicidal Ideation of active LAFD member
  • Serious line of duty injury

Potential for response: The following events will start with a consult call/debrief over the phone. Through the phone assessment the clinician will determine if an inperson, or in office follow-up debrief is warranted.

A
  • Member displaying psychotic symptoms
  • Homicidal Ideation by active LAFD member
  • Disaster/Multi-casualty Incident
  • Witnessed killing or wounding of an innocent person
  • Significant events involving children
  • Prolonged Incidents especially with loss of life
  • Personally, threatening situations
  • Events with excessive media interest
  • A highly distressing event

No Field Response: The following are problematic and cause for concern for the individual in question but do not warrant an on-call clinician in person response. A call to the BHP office for follow-up care is most appropriate. The following list has examples and is not exhaustive.

A
  • Non-serious line of duty injury
  • Administrative leave
  • Work concerns (vaccine mandate, difficult interpersonal relationships, unfair treatment, etc.)
  • Recent terminal illness diagnosis
  • Death of a loved one
  • Divorce
  • Custody battle
  • Financial crisis
  • Suspected and/or confirmed alcohol/drug use*
  • Politics
