Preventing negative psychological outcomes requires investment in understanding thinking patterns, emotional states, and applying proactive coping strategies such as the following:
- Maintain a healthy diet.
- Prioritize sleep at a minimum of 7- 8 hours per night.
- Exercise at least 3 times per week.
- Process thoughts and emotions with trusted people such as colleagues, family, and/or friends.
- Psychologically detach - take a vacation.
- Invest in an outside activity such as a hobby.
- Connect with a spiritual or cultural group.
- Schedule an annual confidential appointment with a psychologist to assess present demands and resources and determine the best strategies to create and maintain behavioral health.
