Procedure

MOS

  1. Do not post the following:

A. Department command identifiers as part of a privately held media moniker (ex: @nypd_johndoe, @053pct_janedoe)

B. Department affiliations of other individuals, including but not limited to, the individual posting, “tagging” and or “sharing” pictures of other MOS without consent of that individual.

C. Photographs of themselves in uniform and or displaying official identification, patches or badges, marked or unmarked vehicles without authorization from the dept. ( these prohibitions will not apply to photographs taken at official dept ceremonies)

D. No public items(arrest/booking photographs, witness statements, crime scene photographs, videos etc.) that were gained as a result of their position with the dept.

Do Not Engage In:

A. Any type of social media contact with a suspect, witness, crime victim, and or attorney involved in same case, if that officer was either involved in the incident, or the officer became acquainted with that victim, or witness during or because of the incident, and the matter is ongoing

B. Any type of social media contact with minors they interact with in the course of their employment with the department.

C. Any type of social media contact with any person or organization advocating hatred, oppression, or prejudice based on race, religion, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation, and or disability, and

D. The retransmitting and or manipulating of discourteous or disrespectful remarks, in any form, regarding another persons ethnicity, race, religion, gender, gender identity/expression, sexual orientation and or disability

MOS are reminded that they are strictly accountable for their conduct at all times, inside or outside NYC, whether on or off duty, including the use of social media accounts.
