203-31 Religous Head Covering

Question 1

Definition
Religious head covering- head covering may be worn with the written approval of the EEO division. The head covering must conform to the standards prescribed by the EEO division and have a cap device affixed to the front of the head covering, of appropriate. All hair must neatly fit inside the head covering and in case of an incident where the use of a tight fitting helmet is required, head covering must be removed to don appropriate protective head gear.

Procedure

Requesting MOS
1. Prepare “reasonable accommodation request for religious practices or observances” and submit to _______________

Equal employment opportunity division
2. Review reasonable accommodation form for completeness and accuracy.

3.confer with member concerned regarding circumstances of request.
A. The EEO division will review all applications and make a decision on a case by case basis
B. The member will be notified of the restrictions delineated in this procedure for MOS who choose to wear a religious head covering.

4. Notify requesting member and CO of member concerned, in writing, of decision regarding accommodation request.
5. Direct requesting MOS to report to shield, ID, and retirement unit to obtain a new ID noting religious accommodation
