what are 2 main oesophageal cancers?
A
squamous cell carcinoma (mainly in east and developing countries) and adenocarcinoma (mainly seen in west)

what can develop into adenocarcinoma?
A
barrett’s oesophagus →body trying to change in oesophagus, replacement of stratified squamous epithelium by columnar epithelium = can lead to adenocarcinoma

what is prevention of oesophageal cancer?
A
- progressive dysphagia
- heartburn
- vomiting
- weight loss
- lethargy
- hoarse voice

what is treatment for oesophageal cancers?
A
- treat endoscopically
- squamous responds to chemotherapy

what are gastric cancers classified into?
A
based on location in stomach into upper gastric + lower gastric cancers - they are completely different in all aspects

what does upper gastric cancers involve?
A
- include all cancers involving gastro-oesophageal junction + gastric cardia
- etiopathology is similar to adenocarcinoma of lower oesophagus therefore management similar too
