squamous cell carcinoma (mainly in east and developing countries) and adenocarcinoma (mainly seen in west)

A

barrett’s oesophagus →body trying to change in oesophagus, replacement of stratified squamous epithelium by columnar epithelium = can lead to adenocarcinoma

  • progressive dysphagia

  • vomiting

based on location in stomach into upper gastric + lower gastric cancers - they are completely different in all aspects

what does upper gastric cancers involve?

A
  • include all cancers involving gastro-oesophageal junction + gastric cardia
  • etiopathology is similar to adenocarcinoma of lower oesophagus therefore management similar too
