Q

Who did Charles try to arrest in January 1642?

A

5 leading parliamentary opponents, accusing them of trying to subvert the laws of England and of encouraging the Scots to invade England. The five members had been forewarned and fled. This was the final straw for Parliament as it showed that the King could no longer be trusted and had turned to force to get his way. Charles then left London due to the growing animosity and demonstrations.
