2. Estimate the size of a population Flashcards
1
Q
Method
A
- Stretch a long tape (TRANSECT LINE) across the area.
- Place QUADRAT on ground RANDOMLY
- COUNT number of individual plants of ONE SPECIES
- REPEAT 2
- WORK out MEAN no of PLANTS & show as no of plants per 1m2
- Measure the WHOLE HABITAT
- Multiply no of plants in 1m2 by the WHOLE AREA
2
Q
What are the ERRORS/CONSIDERATIONS when taking SAMPLES?
A
The ERRORS/CONSIDERATIONS when taking SAMPLES are:
- make sure the QUADRANTS are placed at RANDOM - can use RANDOM CO-ORDINATES to help with this
- the more SAMPLES the MORE ACCURATE the ESTIMATE
