What is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic Fibrosis is:

• an inherited disorder of cell membranes
• CF is controlled by a single gene - that gene has 2 alleles
• to have CF you need to have 2 copies of the defective gene (as CF is recessive)
• they need to inherit a defective gene from each parent
• if only inherit one defective gene you do not have CF but are a CARRIER (Cf - heterozygous)
