clinical signs of portosystemic shunt
A
- poor growth, poor weight gain
- neuro signs
- ptyalism- salivation in cats
- GI
- urinary stones- ammonia isn’t filtered in liver instead goes to kidneys and causes stone formation

bloodwork and UA of portosystemic shunt will show
A
low BUN, albumin, cholesterol
ammonium biurate crystals
* bile acids can be high- bile acids usually reabsorbed by liver
* ammonia- need to test on fresh sample
