what is a proxy war?
a war in which two powers in conflict use substitutes instead of fighting each other directly
what was SEATO?
southeast asia treaty organization. led by the us, made for anti-communist aggression
what was CENTO?
central treaty organization. led by us, made for anti-communist agression

what are two main conflicts of the cold war?
korean war and vietnam war
how did the korean war start?
tension between communist (N) and anti-communist (S) governments in korea
what did north korean troops do with the increased tension?
they invaded south korea
what did truman do, seeing the invasion as an example of communist aggression and expansion?
he sent US troops to repel the invaders, under the approval of the UN
after the UN forces marched across the 38th parallel, what did the chinese do?
they sent in thousands of troops into NK and pushed the UN back out.

fidel castro set up a communist regime, who also overthrew the cuban dictator

exiled cuban fighters would invade cuba at the bay of pigs, which was a revolt against castro. it was a disaster, and the exiled surrendered
what did the soviet union do after the cuban invasion? what was meant of this?
they sent nuclear missiles to cuba. it was meant to counteract US missiles in Turkey.
why did the vietnam war start?
the rise of Ho Chi Minh
why did the US troops send troops to south vietnam?
they wanted to keep communists in north vietnam from gaining control
what did Nixon do that eventually reunited vietnam?
reached an agreement with North vietnam in the Paris Peace Accords, which allowed the US to withdrawl its forces
