What were the consequences of the 1798 rebellion?

A

The rebellion saw a growth of sectarianism between Catholics and Protestants, Irish politics became increasingly divided on the basis of religion. After two attempted French invasions and a rebellion the government in London decided to bring Ireland back under the direct control. Despite Wolfe Tones dream of an independent Irish Republic, he inspired many who came after him.
