describe what the first step of social change (drawing attention to the issue) involves
social proof such as handing out flyers and marching in the streets to highlight and show people there is an issue. takes a dissenter (someone who disagrees with the majority) to challenge the status quo
describe what the second step of social change (consistency) involves
diachronic of synchronic, message must be the same. may involve what others are saying or doing, bringing an element of nsi to help draw attention
describe what the third step of social change (deeper processing) involves
by remaining consistent, more and more people will start to question the status quo. getting the masses to think about your issue and question what’s in place at the moment
describe what the fourth step of social change (augmentation principle) involves
demonstrate commitment through self sacrifice. seeing someone else willing to break the status quo may give you the social support to do the same
describe what the fifth step of social change (snowball effect) involves
minority groups remain flexible can lead to more and more people joining. gradually, the more people convert the minority’s beliefs, the minority will slowly convert the masses and become the majority
describe what the sixth step of social change (social cryptomnesia) involves
people know that change has occurred but they might not remember how it happened. losing the memory of the events caused the change
