why does identification happen?
sometimes we conform to the opinions/behaviour of a group because there is something about the group that we value (we identify with it)
definite identification
identifying with a group we want to be a part of, we may publicly change our opinion or behaviour to achieve this goal even if we don’t privately agree with everything the group stands for
what level of conformity is internalisation
the deepest level
what is internalisation?
when the individual genuinely accepts the groups norms
what does internalisation result in?
a private as well as a public change in behaviour or opinions
