Definition of epilepsy

When doing EEG to dx seizure, what type of seizure has a 90% chance of being seen on EEG where others are btwn 20-40% chance?
Petit Mal (absence)
Two things that can provoke seizures to catch them on EEG
- Hyperventilation
2. Sleep deprivation

History - esp from a witness
A combo of AEDs that has been shown to treat epilepsy the best
Val proud acid + lamotrigine
Major AED to avoid in pregnancy
Valproic acid
Drug of choice for pregnant women with epilepsy
None are perfect, but the best are the newer drugs and the one that best controls the pt’s seizures
Transient global amnesia
Sudden temporary isolated episode of loss of memory, pt may not recognize people, lasts a few hours and resolves, no memory of the event, no other neuro sx
