Advantages of Autocratic leadership - 3
1) Focused on getting tasks done
2) Speeds up decision making process - important in times of crisis
3) High levels of control suitable for unskilled workforce
Disadvantages of Autocratic leadership - 3
2) No opportunities for employees to be involved in decision making process - may not enjoy work / lower levels of motivation
3) No opportunities to collect opinions of the workforce that maybe valuable
Paternalistic leadership
the leader makes decisions but takes into account the welfare of employees as some consultation takes place
Paternalistic leadership features
- Workers & happiness
- Welfare
- Consultation
- Managers want their workers to be happy and do what they think is best for them
- Great deal placed on their welfare and beings
- some consultation might take place - but final decision is taken by the managers. There is no participation in the decision making
Advantages of Paternalistic leadership - 1
1) Attention given to employee welfare - may feel that they are being looked after
Disadvantages of Paternalistic leadership - 2
1) Employees given no power over decision making process
2) Lower levels of motivation
