What is the AO1 for your social key question?

A

COMMON TYPES OF RIOTS:

  • Police riot: when the authorities use disproportionate force on civilians; this includes when the police attack peaceful protestors, causing them to fight back
  • Prison riot: a concerted uprising by prisoners, either to express grievances or escape
  • Race riot: a riot involving violence between two ethnic groups, usually a majority group attacking a minority
  • Sports riot: a riot between fans of two teams, usually after a close defeat and almost always in the winning team’s city
  • Urban riot: a riot in an inner city area, triggered by poor living conditions or unemployment
  • Racist Chelsea fans, wouldn’t let Souleymane Sylla, a black man, on the train (Feb 2015 Paris)
    He was repeatedly and violently pushed off the carriage as he tried to board the train.
  • Michael Brown, african-american, shot by police officer after robbery (Aug 2014 Missouri)
    Riots broke out protesting this, 150 riot police arrived with tear gas but the rioters destroyed a dozen businesses and set two on fire.
    African-Americas police officer joined riots, calmed down protest because he joined the two groups.
