What is cryptorchidism?
Testis don’t descend into scrotum
Give an example of a genetic cause of cryptorchidism
Prader Willi syndrome
What complications are associated with cryptorchidism?
Atrophy and infertility
Increased risk germ cell tumour including in the unaffected testis
What is a varicocoele?
Dilated veins in the spermatic cord
Can lead to fertility problems due to warmth
What is a hydrocoele?
Fluid collection in tunica vaginalis
Due to infection, hernia
What are the causes of orchitis in young men?
STDs
Mumps
What causes orchitis in older men?
UTIs
When is testicular torsion most common?
At birth and puberty
What tumours can be found in the testis?
Germ cell most common
Sex cord/stromal tumours eg. leydig cell
Rarely lymphoma and mets
What are the risk factors for germ cell tumours?
White
Cryptorchidism
Klinefelter syndrome
What does T2 mean in relation to testicular tumours?
Vascular or tunica albuginea invasion
What does T3 mean in relation to testicular tumours?
Cord invasion
What does T4 mean in relation to testicular tumours?
Scrotum invasion
What lymph nodes does testicular cancer spread to?
Iliac
What are the most common sites for mets from testicular cancer?
Lungs
