Q

VASCULARIZATION OF KIDNEYS

describe renal arteries and renal veins

A

Renal Arteries are branches of descending aorta. Ultimately, branches of it give rise to glomeruli.

Kidneys drained by Renal Veins which dump into inferior vena cava. (As body wall structures, they DO NOT dump into hepatic portal system.)

Q

Sympathetic Innervation: of kidneys

Function of sympathetic innervation

A

T5-T9 greater splanicn & T10-T11 lesser splanicn (multiple branches entering into renal plexus). Synapse in nearby celiac ganglion.

may constrict blood flow to kidneys (afferent arterioles), decreasing overall kidney output.

Q

INNERVATION OF KIDNEYS

Parasympathetic Innervation:

Function

A

Vagus nerve (of course!) Synapse on target organ.

may increase blood flow to kidneys, increasing kidney filtration function, but autonomics play a reduced role and is more important.

Reality is- the hormones and hormonal is much more imp- have targets but its really endocrine contronlling kidney function

Q

INNERVATION OF BLADDER

Sympathetic Innervation:
Function

A

Sympathetic Innervation: T12-L2. Lumbar splanchnic nerves, synapsing in inferior mesenteric plexus, leading to hypogastric plexus.

Sympathetic Function: inhibit constriction of muscular wall of bladder (detrusor), contract sphincters.

Q

NNERVATION OF BLADDER

Parasympathetic Innervation:
Function:

A

Parasympathetic Innervation: S2-4. Pelvic nerve. Synapse right on bladder wall.

Parasympathetic Function: stimulate constriction of muscular wall of bladder (detrusor), relax sphincters.
