What is the importance of weight-bearing exercise?

A

Increase bone density. Reduced risk of osteoporosis as person gets older since bones become naturally lighter.

What are the long term effects of exercise on the skeletal system?

A

Increased bone density. Exercise helps the bones become heavier and therefor stronger, particularly weight-bearing exercise.
Increased strength of ligaments and tendons. Become thicker and therefor stronger.

A

A

Need for balanced diet. Particularly calcium - in dairy products for healthy bones - and vitamin D - helps absorption of calcium; found in eggs, fish and dairy products.
