1.2 - Terrestrial Biomes Flashcards
What is a biome?
An area that shares a combination of average yearly temperature and precipitation (climate).
How are plants and animals in a biome adapted?
They are uniquely adapted to live in that biome.
What temperature range defines Tundra and Boreal biomes?
60 degrees +.
What temperature range defines Temperate biomes?
30-60 degrees +.
What temperature range defines Tropical biomes?
Equator.
What is the soil quality in a tropical rainforest?
Nutrient-poor soil from plant competition.
What is the soil quality in a boreal forest?
Nutrient-poor soil from a low temperature and low decomposition rate of dead organic matter.
What is the soil quality in a temperate forest?
Nutrient-rich soil from dead organic matter and warm temperature and moisture.
