- blisters on/around affected areas(mouth,genitals,anus)
- fever
- pain around genital area
- burning pain/difficulty urinating
- oral herpes usually cause tingling and burning before blisters

- history
- appearance
- culture of virus
- direct fluorescen antibody to detect virus
- skin biopsy

Treatments
A
- analgesics (ibuprofen, paracetamol)
- topical anaesthetic (prilocaine, lidocaine, benzocaine)
- antiviral (acyclovir, valaciclovir)
