A
Bacterial infection caused by Tubercle Bacilli
-usually attacks the lungs

Causes
A
- Myobacterium Tuberculosis
- males> females
- airborne particles
- infectious droplet nuclei by coughing, sneezing

Risk Factors
A
- close contact
- immunocompromised patients (AIDS, Cancer)
- drug abuse and alcoholism
- pre existing medical condition (diabetes mellitus, chronic renal failure)

Clinical Manifestations
A
- cough 2 weeks, initially dry then green to yellowish phlegm
- continuous low grade fever
- chest pain with dyspnea
- haemoptysis
- anorexia, loss of weight
- lethargy

Diagnostic Tests
A
- Mantoux Test (ID)
- Acid Fast Bacillus Test (early morning sputum collected 3 consecutive days)
