9
Q

What are the fire requirements for the materials uses on seat covers?

A

Seat covers are treated with fire resistant substance that must be re-applied after a certain number of dry cleanings

11
Q

How are the galleys secured to the aircraft structure?

A

Cabin galleys are normally fixed to the seat rails with additional fasteners to the walls and ceiling so that the relatively heavy galley can withstand acceleration well above normal flight loads.

Q

Describe the methods of retaining cargo in the different types of cargo bays?

A

Bulk Compartments - (loose objects + living animals) - A cargo net suspended across the compartment prevents cargo from shifting when the aircraft is in flight. The net webbing is attached to anchor plates on the side walls and loop fittings on the ceilings.

Container or Pallet Compartments - Cargo to be loaded is in normalised containers or pallets (LD-3 half containers)

15
Q

Where are emergency ropes installed in large transport aircraft?

A

In civil passenger aircraft which have emergency exists without escape chutes, emergency ropes are provided. They are also fitted by overwlng emergency exits.

Emergency ropes are also fitted by the crew emergency exits. The crew may escape from the cockpit by sliding down these ropes to safety.

16
Q

What is the reason why F/A seats should fold automatically after use?

Where are they located?

A

They fold away after use so that there is more space in the cabin area

They are located near the doors to ensure they are the first ones available to open the door in an emergency.

17
Q

What special requirements must cabin seats meet to be used in passenger transport aircraft?

A

The seats’ internal pans are covered with a fire blocking material,

Seat cover is also aplied periodically with fire resistant substance

18
Q

Describe the two different kinds of cargo compartments used in transport aircraft?

A
  1. Bulk Cargo Compartment - loose objects and living animals. A cargo net is suspended across the compartment to prevent cargo shifting in flight. The net webbing is attached to anchor plates on the side walls and loop fittings on the ceiling.
  2. Container Cargo Compartments - Cargo in normal pallets or containers. Normally LD-3 half containers are used.
19
Q

Is it possible to open air stairs manually and what are the driving methods for normal operation?

A

Control circuits - consists of limit switches and relays that sequence the driving of the air stair door and air stair actuators. Control selection can be either normal powered or a manual mode.

The carriage and ladder assemblies are
driven by an electric motor driven actuator.

20
Q

At what height above ground do aircraft exits, by regulation, require that exit slides must be installed?

A

Exit slides must be installed at exits that are 1.8 meters or more above ground.

21
Q

What happens when an emergency exit door escape slide handle is put in the armed position?

A

A gritbar connects the emergency escape slide to the door attach fittings. When the door is opened, the door movement pulls the slide from the slide pack and it falls down. A lanyard then pulls the reservoir valve open which inflates the slide fully within 3 to 10 seconds.

22
Q

Describe a typical aircraft emergency exit escape path lighting system.

A

The escape path lighting is white in colour and guides passengers to an escape exit. The escape door lights themselves will be red in colour. The height of the escape path lighting system must not be greater than 4 ft.

These emergency lights are independent of the main lighting system and are battery powered.

23
Q

Detail how passenger seats are attached in the passenger cabin.

A

Passenger seats attach to tracks on the compartment floor. The tracks are extruded from the floor throughout their entire length and contain circular cut outs that receive the seat attachment fittings. They are positioned in 1’’ increments.

24
Q

How are items secured in a bulk cargo compartment?

A

A net is cast over the bulk cargo compartment and is attached to anchor plates on the walls and loop fittings on the ceiling of the compartment. This ensures the cargo is secure and will not shift in flight which would affect the aircraft’s centre of gravity.

25
Q

How are an aircraft cabin airstairs controlled?

A

Aircraft airstairs can be controlled from inside or outside the aircraft. They are actuated hydraulically through aircraft battery, APU or ground power.

Aircraft cabin airstairs also contain manual actuation if a defect occurs or for maintenance purposes.

26
Q

Who has priority in an aircraft passenger address system?

A

The pilots have priority in an aircraft passenger address system.
