11.15 Oxygen Flashcards
What does air consist of?
. 78% nitrogen
. 21% oxygen
. 1% inhert gases
As altitude increase what happens to air pressure and density?
As altitude increases, air pressure decreases and so does density of air
At 10000ft Humans can compensate for lack of oxygen by?
Breathing faster
What feet would you start feeling effects of altitude?
14000ft start feeling ill
What feet would you be completely compensated for altitude sickness?
15000ft
What are the three types of oxygen?
. Aviators
. Medical oxygen
. Technical oxygen
Out of the three types of oxygen which type can be used in aircraft?
Aviators as it is dry
What does medical oxygen contain that makes it unable to be used in aircraft?
Water so may freeze
What does technical oxygen contain that makes it unable to be used in aircraft?
Contaminated
What should you ensure when working with oxygen systems?
Wash your hands,
Be free of oil
Who does the crew oxygen system supply to?
Only cockpit crew, one or more bottles
What colour is oxygen bottle?
Dark green
Attached to each bottle is a what?
Pressure regulator
Feed o2 inti distribution components
What is maximum capacity of 02 in a bottle?
3200 litres
What pressure is 02 stored at?
1850 PSI
If temperature or pressure of bottle gets too high what bursts, preventing major damage?
Green Safety disk at 2600 PSI
If the bottle reads less than 50 PSI what should you do?
Must not be refilled as moisture may have entered cylinder
. Remove it and return it to workshop
When refilling the bottle there is a danger or heat concentration, what helps prevent this?
Thermal compensator
When 02 pressure is displayed on ECAM/ EICAS what are the two colours for sufficent and low pressure?
Green = good
Amber = low pressure
In the cockpit how many oxygen masks are there?
4
2 for pilots
2 for observers
What are the two functions of the mask storage box?
. Storage
. Press to rest and test
How quickly can flight crew put their masks on?
With one hand in less than 5 seconds
What must you do before repressurising 02 barrels?
Check temperature
On flight crew mask what does the mask cover?
. Eyes
. Nose
. Mouth
What are the three modes of the oxygen mask?
. Normal
. 100% oxygen
. Emergency
At what altitude will passenger o2 systems activate automatically?
14000 feet
There is an 02 mask for everyone, where else are the masks available?
Every seat, lavatories and every attendant station
What precaution is in place because children may be sharing a seat with an adult?
At least one spare mask than there are seats in a row
If automatic activation switch fails, what can you do?
The pilot manually activates it in the cockpit
After passenger system has been activated, what must you do?
Rest it by pushing reset button in cockpit
For maintenance purposes wha5 is in place to prevent the whole system activating?
Special tool for opening single stowage boxes
After activation and deployment of system, what needs to happen?
Repacked away manually by hand
What are the two ways oxygen can be supplied to the system?
. Chemical system
. Gaseous system
In a chemical oxygen generator, of the side of the canister changes colour, what does it mean?
Generator has been used and must be replaced
In a gaseous system there is no oxygen flow until?
Until masks are pulled and at least one lanyard is tightened which pulls a pin to activate.
What is the main drawback from gaseous oxygen system?
On large aircraft there is a t8me delay suppling oxygen to passengers who are located a long way from o2 bottles
In a gaseous system where is the oxygen supplied from?
o2 bottles
What is the intended use of portable oxygen systems?
Emergency and first aid
Where is portable oxygen normally stored?
In cockpit and near exits in passenger compartment
What are the two types of masks used with portable o2 cylinders?
. One is a full face mask
. One is a continuous flow o2 mask (first aid)
How is oxygen pressure indicated on a bottle?
By a direct reading gauge
