11.14 Lights Flashcards
What ATA are lights found in?
33
What colour is the left navigation light?
Red
What colour is the right navigation light?
Green
What colour is the aft navigation light?
White
What is the purpose of the navigation lights?
To mark the aircraft position and orientation with reference to observer
What colours are the aircraft navigation lights?
Red = left
Green = right
White = behind
What is the angle that you can see green and red nav lights?
110 degrees
What degree can you see the white aft light?
70 degrees left and right
If you observe an aircraft with a white light on top and bottom of fuselage, this is what?
Strobe type anti collusion light
What is the normal flashing frequency of a rotating beam type anti collusion light?
80-90 flashes per minute
What is the purpose of strobe lightening?
Provides high intensity flash by using a set of capacitors
What is the flashing frequency of strobe type anti collision lightening?
60-70 flashes per minute
What is the principle of operation of the strobe anti collusion light?
Uses a set of capacitors to hold a charge which is released across a gap to produce a flash
What is the purpose of landing lights?
Mandatory and installed to provide illumination to allow the flight crew to see the area ahead during final stages of landing
What type of light does the landing gear provide?
An intense narrow beam of white light which is directed at a fixed angle in relation to aircraft
If a retractable type landing lamp is extended at too high airspeed, what is likely to happen?
The unit will be blown back into the retracted position and the lamp will go out
Why is there a time limit on operation of landing lamps during ground tests?
Because the lamp has no cooling airflow and would become too hot
What is the purpose of taxi/ turn off lights?
Fitted at front of aircraft to provide illumination, allows pilot to see manoeuvre of aircraft on ground in darkness/ poor visibility conditions
To ensure the lights only operate after gear is down and locked, what is in place?
The light switch circuit which is via contacting the landing gear handle
Which areas on an aircraft are likely to be illuminated by ice inspection lights?
. Leading edge of wing
. Engine intake lip
Where are ice inspection lights installed on aircraft?
Mounted inside of fuselage in a flush manner
Where and why do aircraft has logo lights?
Illuminate the vertical stab
Where company has logo therefore, for advertising
What 3 areas does the internal lighting system consist of?
. Cockpit and instrument lighting
. Cabin normal lighting
. Cargo bay lighting
What are the two purposes of cockpit lighting and instrument lighting?
. Ensure cockpit is readable
. No glare or reflection
What are the two different light types for cockpit/ instrument lighting?
. Integral - part of instrument
. Flood lighting - external
During a storm, what system overrides the dim function of all instruments?
The single thunderstorm switch
What three positions does a master test switch enable checking?
Test, bright, dim
What does the master caution indicate?
A fault in one particular system
Where is the general cabin lighting switch located?
The pursers panel
What voltage is the cargo bay illuminated with?
28V DC
Why must there be a system of illuminated escape paths?
So passengers can escape in darkness or smoke
What areas are illuminated with emergency lighting?
. Cabin
. Exits
. Escape slides
What are the three positions that emergency lights can be put in?
. OFF
. ON
. ARMED
How long miss the emergency lights stay posted in case of an emergency?
10 minutes
