1.1.10 - Evaluate different methods of delivering user training. Flashcards
Give 3 ways of delivering user training.
1) Self instruction.
2) Formal classes.
3) Remote/online training.
What is self instruction?
Self instruction is where users learn how to use the system on their own. Can involve reading a manual, watching videos etc.
State 3 advantages of self learning.
1) Low cost.
2) Flexible timeline.
3) Training is tailored to what the user wants to learn.
State 2 disadvantages of self learning.
1) Users might feel lost or overwhelmed.
2) Unstructured learning may lead to features being unused or misunderstood.
What are formal classes?
Formal classes are where users sit down in a classroom and a teacher instructs them on how to operate the system.
State 4 advantages of formal classes.
1) Structured learning environment.
2) An expert is available to answer doubts the user may have.
3) Easier to understand certain features that might be misunderstood or ignored.
4) Capable of training staff more quickly.
State 4 disadvantages of formal classes.
1) More expensive, as teachers and facilities are required.
2) The schedule is much harder to personalise.
3) The experience is much harder to personalise.
4) Instructor may not have time to answer every question the students may have.
What is remote/online training?
Remote/online training is where an instructor speaks to one student or a small group of them through a virtual environment.
Give 5 advantages of remote/online training.
1) Structured learning environment.
2) An expert is available to answer doubts the user may have.
3) Curriculum designed to help users understand features that may be misunderstood or ignored.
4) No facilities needed.
5) Instructor has more time to cater the students questions.
Give 3 disadvantages of remote/online training.
1) More expensive, as an internet connection and teachers are needed for this type of user training.
2) Can make users feel less helped as it’s not “hands on” help.
3) Must be computer based.
