1.10 Hazard Management Theoretical Models Flashcards
Hazard management cycle
Response, recovery, mitigation, preparation, returns to response. Hazard event is between response and preparation.
Mitigation
Identifies potential hazards. Actions: land use planning, enforcing building codes, building protective structures
Preparedness
Minimising loss of life and damage. Actions: Create preparedness plans, create warning systems, evacuation routes, stockpiling aid equipment & supplies, raising public awareness
Response
Coping. Save lives and protect property. Reduce economic lose and create safe spaces. Actions: search and rescue, evacuation, restoring critical infrastructure, ensure continuation of critical services
Recovery
Short term- immediate needs being covered, overlaps with response.
Actions: Health and safety services, permanent power and water. Food and shelter. Financial assistance
Long term- reduces future vulnerability.
Actions: rebuilding and repairing infrastructure. Reopening services
Park-hazard response curve
Model showing possible response of a country to a hazard event.
