1.1 Intro to Lean Six Sigma Flashcards
What is Six Sigma useful for?
A: Reducing the variation in a process. Understanding complex interactions. Optimizing and prediction the outcome of a process.
What is sigma and why do we want 6 of them?
sigma is standard deviation. A process that fits within 6 sigma levels (+/- 3 standard deviations) is very likely to produce good parts.
What are the steps of DMAIC?
Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control
What is Lean useful for?
A: Quick turn. Scientifically experimenting towards a goal. PDCA.
In scientific thinking what are the five basic problem-solving questions?
What is the target condition?
Where are you now?
What is in your way?
What is your next step?
When can we follow up?
What are the steps of PDCA?
Plan, Do, Check, Act (Adjust)
What are the five principles of HOP?
People make mistakes
Blame fixes nothing
Context drives behavior
Learning and improving is vital
Leader’s response matters
Describe the black line/ blue line model
The black line is work as intended, the blue line is work as it actually happens. The blue line shows the true variability of work.
What are the differences between Errors, Mistakes, and Sabotage?
Error: Unintentional action, Unintentional negative outcome
Mistake: Intentional action, Unintentional negative outcome
Sabotage: Intentional action, Intentional negative outcome
What is Lean Six Sigma about?
A: A structured approach to problem solving and improvement. A toolbox of methods to understand processes and solve problems. LEAN: Common sense, uncommonly applied. Six Sigma: Predicting the future with math.
What is statistical inference?
A: Using observed data from a process to build a mathematical model that allows the prediction of future performance. Without this model, we only know what we can see.
What is the role of a LSS Green Belt?
A: Identify opportunities for improvement in your areas of expertise, lead improvement initiatives to address identified issues, continuously improve the processes you control, advocate for structured, scientific problem solving, collaborate with others on improvement initiatives, act as a SME on Lean and Six Sigma
Fix what bugs you!
What is a “Target Condition”?
A: A short term goal that you experiment towards.
What is a threshold of knowledge and how do you deal with it?
A: The line at which you don’t know for certain about something? Experiment through.
What does DOWNTIME stand for?
Defects
Overproduction
Waiting
Non-utilize potential
Transport
Inventory
Movement
Extra Processing
