11-21 L2 Bone marrow erythropoiesis Flashcards
1
Q
Reticulocytes amt in RBCs
A
normally constitue about 0.8-1% of RBCs
2
Q
WHat is the receptor for erythropoietin (Epo)?
A
CFU-E
3
Q
WHere does the erythroblast maturation and division occur in macrophage cytoplasm
A
eryhtroblastic islands
4
Q
What is considered the beginning of hemoblobin synthesis
A
basophilic erythroblas–> polychormatophilc erythroblast
5
Q
What is the role of WBC in RBC synthesis?
A
- supports differentiation and enucleation
- DNAse II is required to digest extruded nuclei
6
Q
What 3 factors regulated hemopoiesis
A
- humoral factors w/in and outside marrow
- contact w/stromal cells
- extracellular matrix secreted by stromal cells
7
Q
What is used to stimulated neutrophilic production after chemotherapy?
A
- G-CSF
- also it moblizes HSC from the marrow to peripheral circulation for BMT
8
Q
describe polycythemia
A
primary compenstaion device for living at high altitude.
- The reticuloctye count (in teh pt’s effort to get polycythemic increases to about 5% in the first week after moving to high altitude*
- during this period the hematocrit steadily increases after acclimatization, however the erticulocyte count is normal and the hematocrit remainshigh*.
