1 c) Atomic Structure Flashcards
Atomic Number
Number of protons
Electron
Subatomic particle found in shells outside the nucleus with a relative mass of 1/1836 and a relative charge of 1-.
Isotopes
Atoms of the same element with the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons.
Mass Number
Number of protons and neutrons
Molecule
Two or more atoms covalently bonded together with a fixed number of atoms.
Neutron
Subatomic particle found in the nucleus of an atom with a relative mass of 1 and no charge.
Proton
Subatomic particle found in the nucleus of an atom with a relative mass of 1 and a relative charge of 1+.
Relative Atomic Mass
The weighted average mass of the isotopes of the element, relative to the mass of 1/12th of a C-12 atom.
Atom
Smallest piece of an element that can still be recognised as that element.
Diatomic
Molecule that contains two atoms (HOBrFINCl)
Isoelectronic
Same number of electrons
Nucleon Number
Same as mass number
Nucleus
Contains protons and neutrons in an atom.
Particle
Small object can be referred to as atoms, molecules, ions or the subatomic particles.
Proton Number
Same as atomic number
