What is hypnosis?
A social interaction in which one person (hypnotist) Suggests to another (subj) That certain perceptions, feelings, thoughts, or behaviors will spontaneously occur.
What is posthypnotic suggestion?
A suggestion, made during a hypnosis session, to be carried out after the subject is no longer hypnotized; Used by some clinicians to help control undesired symptoms and behaviors.
Can hypnosis enhance recall or forgotten events?
Unreliable. Mix fact with fiction. Plant ideas that become subject’s Pseudomemory.
Hypnosis alleviate pain?
Yes, hypnosis can reduce fear, thus reducing hypersensitivity to pain.
Hypnosis be therapeutic?
Yes, posthypnotic suggestions have helped alleviate headaches, asthma, and stress-related skin disorders. Also helped in treating obesity.
What is the social influence theory?
Some hypnotic phenomena; behaviors such as dissociative identity disorder and spirit or demon possession, are extension of everyday social behavior; to “please an audience”.
What is the divided consciousness theory?
Disassociation; open to suggestion. Separating the sensations from the emotions. (Pain)
